If you read any of the financial papers you will have seen a lot or reporting on bitcoin, cryptocurrency and other digital currencies. You would have heard that Tesla has purchased $1.5 billion in bitcoin and plans to accept bitcoin as a means of payment to buy a Tesla vehicle.

Kevin O’Leary of Shark Tank fame revealed in February 2021 that he had allocated 3% of his portfolio to bitcoin after Canadian regulators approved bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs). O’Leary explained that bitcoin proponents view the cryptocurrency as digital gold and a hedge against inflation that will appreciate over time.

What do Elon Musk and Kevin O’Leary know that we should know. It is clear that currency itself is a big topic. Questions such as “will an entirely new form of currency become the global norm” is even bigger.

We are delighted to have an expert, Kim Scofield talk to us on where currency is going and provide an introduction to cryptocurrency for business. This is not about personal investing in cryptocurrency. We will start with some key definitions, such as “fiat”, “fungible”, “blockchain”. We will then look at the current status of cryptocurrency in the global marketplace, it’s current uses, and a high level overview of some of the hurdles necessary for cryptocurrency to become mainstream legal tender. Kim is an artificial intelligence analyst, cognitive linguist, and private investor. She is the Founder and CEO of Space42, and Blonde Bad Wolf Consulting. Her focus is:
