An interactive online zoom training on April 11, 2023 – 7:00 to 9:00 PM
One in every five Canadians experiences a mental health problem within a given year. While we often know a lot about physical illness, there tends to be less knowledge about mental illness or substance use problems. It prevents people from seeking help for themselves and from providing appropriate support to people around them.
This Talk Will Cover:

- Why do we need to talk about mental health?
- Stigma and mental health
- Ways to manage your mental health – coping strategies
About the Speaker
Susan Kagan
Mental Health Educator
Susan is a registered nurse with over 40 years of experience as an educator and practitiioner in the health care sector. She has devoted most of her career as an educator at the Seneca-York Program with a focus on mental health and ethics. Since leaving Seneca-York she is providing mental health education to both the profit and non-profit sector.
Susan earned a Bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Western Ontario. After many years of teaching, she returned to school and earned a Master’s and Doctoral degree education at the University of Toronto – OISE. She has worked on a mental health crisis team, and also facilitated groups at the Cedar Centre (formerly York Region Abuse Program). She is currently involved in volunteer work that focuses on providing care and services to those experiencing homelessness.
