The GST- HST World – Change is a Constant

This “roundup” will provide an overview of important legislative changes, as well as updates to administrative guidance recently released by the CRA. The webinar will also include a discussion of the potential impact of recent court decisions on administration of GST/HST.

Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be up-to-date on the latest developments in the GST/HST world, and aware of potential issues that might be of concern to their own organizations or clients.

Simon Thang, LL.B, LL.M is a sales tax lawyer and the principal of Thang Tax Law. Simon has over a decade of experience exclusively in sales tax (GST/HST, PST), customs and trade gained at prominent Bay Street law firms. He assists a range of clients including multi-nationals, small and mid-sized businesses and individuals.

This experience gives Simon the insight to advise on a range of issues and industries, including: owner-managed businesses; purchase and sale of businesses, real estate transactions, non-profits and charities, financial services and investments, business reorganizations, cross-border transactions, medical and health professionals, and non-resident businesses. Simon also has experience in customs and trade matters.

In addition to providing sales tax advice, Simon represents clients in all phases of tax disputes.

Simon has taught commodity tax as a member of the adjunct faculty Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto and has tutored the CPA GST In-Depth course. Simon has written extensively in the area of sales tax and has published book chapters, papers and articles in various publications. Simon is a frequent speaker on commodity tax issues and has presented at the Canadian Professional Accountants’ annual Commodity Tax Symposium, at the Tax Executives Institute’s annual Canadian Tax Conference, to the Law Society of Upper Canada, and to the Ontario Bar Association’s Taxation Group.

Simon received his Canadian law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School and a Masters of Law (Taxation) from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
