In today’s technologically driven landscape it is pretty much impossible to run a business without a proper website. Websites are essentially online store fronts for your business. If it doesn’t look good, it will deter people from wanting to explore your brand more. This is why it is important to keep your site updated and well designed.

Using the analogy of the online store front, you want your website to be able to attract customers and convert them. There are a variety of strategies that you can use for your website to improve your business. Today, I will outline a handful of them.

Use Images and Videos: Visual stimulation attracts people’s attention and makes the site more interesting. Images and photographs also help with building your company’s image. Use the appropriate images that correspond with your business.

Use Simple Sentence Structure: The Internet is very fast-pace and one of the things that is important to note is people rarely read long bodies of text online. They usually do quick skims to extract the desired information. You want to have short, concise sentences that express your point clearly. Additionally, depending on your demographic and what industry you are in, you want to reduce the use of large, complicated words, buzz words and specialized words.

Simplify the Site: If you are trying to sell a product or service, you need to make it easily accessible to your customer. Having a site with a bunch of links, ads and a multitude of pages makes the site harder to navigate and confusing. Make sure everything is easily accessible and the website structure is simple, easy to navigate. Reduce the clutter.

Update the Website: A website in 2015 that looks like it was built in 2003 will not add credibility to your business. A dated website will deter potential customers from trusting your brand. Older looking websites are similar to old, unmaintained stores, they don’t look like they’re still in business. Maintain your store, maintain your website.
